Getting started with Repricer

What Repricer does, which channels it prices on, and how to get your first listing repricing safely without publishing a price you did not intend.

Repricer changes your selling prices for you. It reads what the same item is going for where you sell it, calculates what your price should be, and publishes the new one. Then it does the same again, on its own, for as long as you let it.

Most people come to it for one of three reasons. They sell next to other sellers, and a price that was right in the morning is wrong by lunchtime. They have more listings than anyone can check one at a time. Or they have watched a price race to the bottom and want a floor under it that nothing gets past.

Repricer works on your listings, not on your products. A listing is one thing you sell, in one place, at one price. So the same item on a marketplace and in your own store is two listings, each with its own price and its own competition. You never make one yourself. Every listing comes from an account you connect, which is why Listings in the sidebar is empty until you connect something.

You will find all of this at repricer.readyforcommerce.com. A sidebar runs down the left of every page you open, and everything on this page is behind one of its entries.

One thing is worth knowing before you touch anything. An account you have just connected starts in Preview Mode, where Repricer calculates a price for every one of your listings and sends none of them. So you can set the whole thing up, see exactly what it would publish, and only then let it go out.

What your role lets you do

Your role decides what you are allowed to change, so it is worth checking before you plan anything. You have one of four, and each one includes everything the role below it can do.

Whatever your role, you can read everything. Your listings, your price changes and your reports are open to all four, so the table is only about changing things.

Analyst is a Repricer role and the PIM has no equivalent, so somebody who watches your prices here can be left out of your catalog entirely. Your Repricer role is also separate from your role in the organization, and you get both from the account app rather than from here. Both sets are written out in team, roles and permissions.

How to start repricing

  1. Connect the account your listings are on

Click Integrations in the sidebar, click the card for the marketplace or store you sell on, then click Connect Account. You authorize the connection on that company’s own site and come back with your listings already arriving. Connecting needs the Admin role, and connect your first store goes through it screen by screen.

The first time anyone in your organization opens Repricer, you get this step as a screen of its own before anything else, with Skip for now under the cards.

  2. Read what arrived before you change anything

Click Listings in the sidebar. Every listing on that account is a row, and the Repricing Status column already tells you which of them cannot reprice yet and what each one is missing.

  3. Give each listing a cost

Click a row to open it, go to the Pricing tab, and fill in Unit Cost under Cost of Goods. Do this one carefully, because the lowest price Repricer is willing to publish is calculated from your cost, and a listing with no cost has nothing holding its price up.

  4. Set the price limits

On that same Pricing tab, under Price Limits, fill in Maximum Price. Minimum Price is either a number you type or one your strategy calculates from your cost, and the next step is where that is decided.

  5. Read the strategy you were given

Click Strategies in the sidebar. Every region you connect gets one built for it already, named after the region, and every listing you get already has that one on it. Open it and read what it does before you keep it, or click Create strategy above the table to build your own.

  6. Turn on live repricing

A Preview Mode banner is at the top of every page while one of your connected accounts is still in preview. Click Go Live in that banner, pick the integrations you want live, and confirm. Only an Admin sees the button.

That is the whole setup, and most of it is the third step. From the last step on, Repricer prices those listings by itself: it reads the competition, applies your strategy, and publishes a new price whenever the answer changes.

Everything below explains the parts of Repricer one at a time. You do not need any of it to get through those six steps.

Preview mode

Every account you connect starts in preview, and there is nothing to switch on to get it. Repricer reads the account, works through your strategy on every listing, and stops one step short of publishing. The price it would have sent is in the Target column of your listings table, so you can compare it against Price in the row beside it.

Preview is set per connected integration, so you can put one live and leave the rest calculating. Starting with one small account is the safest way in, because a mistake in your strategy then shows up in one place instead of five.

Going live cannot be undone. The prices Repricer already calculated in preview are submitted as soon as you activate, so read the Target column before you click Go Live.

Only an Admin can end preview for your organization. Below that role the banner is still on the page and tells you to ask your organization’s owner or an admin.

Where everything is

The sidebar has seven entries, and everything you do is under one of them.

EntryWhat you find thereWho sees it
HomeYour Buy Box win rate right now, your sales and price changes over the last 24 hours, and how many listings are repricing against how many cannotEveryone
ListingsEvery listing from every connected account, with its price, its competition, its cost and its limitsEveryone
StrategiesThe rules that decide a price, each one belonging to a single account and regionEveryone
Pricing ActivityEvery price change, what it replaced, and the reason Repricer made itEveryone
ReportsSix reports, on sales, units sold, Buy Box ownership, price changes, profitability and repricing healthEveryone
UploadsImports, Exports and Schedules, for moving costs and limits in and out in a spreadsheetEveryone, and imports need Manager
IntegrationsEverywhere you sell, with the accounts and the regions under each oneAdmin only

As an Analyst, an Editor or a Manager you see six entries instead of seven. Integrations is Admin-only, and below that role it is not in your sidebar at all.

Two more things are in the frame around those pages. Your avatar in the top right corner opens your own settings, and the search box beside it searches your listings, your strategies, your integrations and the pages themselves.

What goes into a price

Four things go into every price you publish: the listing, the competition around it, the strategy on it, and the limits you set. Each one has a section below, and how a price is decided follows the whole calculation in order.

Where your listings come from

Repricer reads your listings out of the connected account and never creates one. Each account is read again every 10 minutes, so a title you fix or a listing you add over there shows up here on its own.

The same reading is what removes one of your listings. When a SKU stops coming back from the account, that listing is deleted here, and your cost, your limits and its price history go with it. Nothing else takes your listing away, and there is no button anywhere that does.

One of your products can become several rows. A listing is one item in one region. A seller account covering 4 country sites gives you 4 rows for the same item, each with its own price and its own currency.

Where the competition comes from

Where the competitor price comes from depends on the kind of place you sell in, and it is the one difference that changes how much work you have to do.

Where you sellWhere the competing price comes from
A marketplace, where you sell next to other sellers offering the same itemThe marketplace reports it. You add nothing
Your own storefront, or a counter you ring sales up atThe pages you list yourself, on the listing’s Competitors tab

On your own storefront there is no shared offer to measure against, so a strategy there normally prices from your cost and your target margin instead. If you would rather it followed a rival’s page, add that page on the Competitors tab and the strategy has something to read.

Competitor prices are refreshed every 10 minutes, the same as your listings.

What a strategy decides

A strategy is the rule that turns the competition into your price. It has two halves. One picks what your price is measured against, such as the Buy Box Price or the lowest competing offer. The other says how your price reacts to it: beat it, match it, or stay above it.

Each strategy is built for one of your accounts and one of its regions, which is why the Strategies table has an Integration and a Region column. A listing can only take a strategy from its own region, and a bulk action covering two of your regions skips the rows it does not fit.

You change which one a listing uses from the Strategy dropdown at the top of its Pricing tab. To move many at once, check the rows on your listings table and click Assign Strategy in the bar that appears above it. Both need the Manager role.

Click Create strategy above the Strategies table and a wizard opens. You get 6 steps most of the time: Basics, Pricing, Price Floor, Safety Nets, Rounding and Preview. You get 5 on your own storefront when the strategy prices from cost, because there is no floor to set separately. You get 7 on an Amazon account with business pricing turned on, which adds B2B Pricing. The strategy wizard goes through every step.

Why every listing already has a strategy on it

Enabling a region builds a default strategy for it, named Default Strategy for and then the region’s name, and every one of your listings in that region gets it.

What that default does depends on where you sell. On a marketplace it beats your competition by the smallest step it can and chases the Buy Box when it is not winning. On your own storefront it aims for a margin over your cost instead. Neither one is a guess about your business, so read it before you go live.

You cannot delete the default strategy. Set default on any other strategy is how you hand the role over to that one instead.

The two numbers your price stays between

Whatever your strategy calculates, the result is pushed back inside two numbers on the listing itself, on its Pricing tab under Price Limits.

FieldWhat it doesWhere else you see it
Minimum PriceThe lowest price Repricer will publishThe Min column on your listings table
Maximum PriceThe highest price it will publishThe Max column

Minimum Price is the one that protects you, and you get it one of two ways. Type a number and it stays exactly that. Or let the strategy calculate it from your cost, the profit or margin you want to keep, and the fees the marketplace charges. An Auto badge is then on the field, and you cannot type over it. The Price Floor step of the wizard is where you choose between the two.

Fees are estimated for you on Amazon, Walmart and eBay. Everywhere else there are no fees in the calculation, so a floor there is only as good as your cost behind it. MAP and MSRP on the same tab can hold your price in further, and safety nets covers what each one does.

When your price actually changes

Repricing does not run on a fixed schedule you can watch. A listing is priced again the moment something it depends on moves: a competitor’s price, your cost, your limits, or the strategy itself. Every one of your listings is also checked again every 3 hours even when nothing has changed.

When the answer comes out different from the price you are at, the new price goes in the Target column and is submitted to the account. When it comes out the same, nothing is sent, which is the normal outcome for most of your listings most of the time.

Pricing Activity in the sidebar is the record of what happened. Each row names the listing, the price it moved From and To, and the Reason in a sentence. You can read why a price went where it went instead of guessing.

What Repricing Status is telling you

Repricing Status is a column on your listings table, and it is the first place to look when a listing is not moving.

StatusWhat it means
WorkingThe strategy is running on this listing
ManualYou typed a Manual Price on it, which is used exactly and beats everything else
PausedSomebody paused this listing on purpose
Not workingThe strategy cannot run, and something is missing

Open a listing showing Not working and Repricing Issues names the cause. These are the ones you meet at the start:

CauseWhat to do
Missing cost priceFill in Unit Cost on the Pricing tab
Missing min priceFill in Minimum Price, or change the strategy’s Price Floor step to calculate one
Missing max priceFill in Maximum Price. Your strategy falls back to it when it cannot compete
No market dataNothing to do. Competitor data for a new account usually arrives within a few hours
Listing is inactiveThe listing is not live on the account. Repricing starts again on its own when it is
Channel region disabledTurn the region back on under Integrations
Account errorThe connection needs authorizing again, under Integrations

What Repricer does not do

  • It never creates or deletes a listing. Your listings arrive from the connected account and leave when they stop coming back from it.
  • It never touches your product information. Titles, descriptions, images and identifiers are read and never written. Keeping those is the PIM’s job.
  • It does not price a listing that is not live. A listing your account reports as inactive or in error is left alone until that changes.
  • One listing gets one selling price. Only two prices go beside it: the strike-through Compare Price on your own storefront, and the business price on an Amazon account with business pricing turned on.
  • Nothing arrives inside the app. There is no notification bell or inbox. Repricer emails you about a connection that needs attention, a sync error, a finished import and a finished export, and you can turn off any of the four in your settings.
  • There is no public API, no webhooks and no audit log. Imports and exports are how you move data in and out in bulk.
  • Going live cannot be reversed. An account you activate cannot be put back into preview. To stop it pricing, pause the listings or turn the region off.

Questions people ask when they start

Nothing is repricing. What did I miss?

Check Repricing Status on your listings table first. Not working means something is missing on the listing, and opening it shows you what under Repricing Issues.

Three causes cover almost all of it. Your listing has no cost, so no floor can be calculated. The listing has no minimum price and the strategy expects you to type one. Or no competitor data has arrived yet, which sorts itself out within a few hours of connecting.

I want to try this on a few listings before all of them

Go live on one of your connected integrations and leave the others in preview. That is the cleanest split, because your accounts still in preview go on calculating and publish nothing.

Inside an account, select the listings you do not want touched yet and click Pause Repricing in the bar above the table. Pausing needs the Manager role.

Can I set the price on one listing myself?

Yes. Open your listing, go to its Pricing tab, and type a Manual Price under Selling Price. That price is published exactly as you typed it, and it skips your strategy, your limits and your rounding. The row then shows Manual.

Clearing the field hands your listing back to its strategy.

Where do I put the cost for hundreds of listings?

In a spreadsheet. Uploads in the sidebar takes a CSV or XLSX with your cost, your minimum and maximum prices, your MAP and your MSRP in it, matched to your listings by SKU.

Export what you have first, edit the columns you want, and send the same file back. Running an import needs the Manager role, and imports covers the whole round trip.

I use the PIM as well. Will the two fight over my price?

Not once you pair them. The PIM publishes a price of its own to your connected accounts, so an account connected in both products has two things writing the same price.

Pairing settles it. Repricer owns the selling price on the paired accounts, and the PIM sends your cost, your MAP and your MSRP across instead. The whole trade is in the Repricer connection.

Why is my price sitting at the minimum and staying there?

Your strategy calculated a price it is not allowed to publish, so the floor caught it. That happens when a competitor is under your floor, which normally means they are willing to make less on the item than you are.

Read the Reason on your listing’s row in Pricing Activity, which names the constraint that stopped it. Your answer is either a lower cost, a lower profit target, or leaving it where it is.

Someone deleted a listing on the marketplace. Can I get its cost back?

No. A listing whose SKU stops coming back from your account is removed here, and its cost, limits, competitor pages and price history go with it. The same SKU showing up again comes back as a new, empty listing.

Keeping a recent export of your costs and limits is the way around this, and it is the only way.
